poems birthday grief
“Birthday Grief”Poem by Audrey Isabelle Mabanta
It’s really an odd thing
So much so that it feels wrong to celebrate my birthday
with all the deaths that linger around it
Yet, I can’t help but feel. Overwhelmingly.
Full of love and gratitude for my time here
It would feel like a disservice
not just to my relatives, dead or alive,
but to chance of being and
the capabilities of love itself
if I weren’t to stop and soak in this day
