“Red Room, Blue Windows”
Poem by Audrey Isabelle Mabanta

I’ll spit out the bitter taste in my mouth
I don’t wanna think less of you
I was supposed to take care of you

I’ll stop screaming as if you’re standing there
Dead in the face like you can’t hear me
and I can’t reach you
We were cut off

I was alone in a room filled with you
When I ran outside you’d chase me like a dog
Or stay in and cry then sleep
And I’d come home to brush your hair

I was shaking in my own bed and you in it
I was never meant to know why you were crying
And you were never meant to know why I was scared

Red room, blue windows
