poems watering plants

“Watering Plants”
Poem by Audrey Isabelle Mabanta

I’ve poured and poured and poured
To nurture this little plant’s growth
Its green dreams full of vibrancy
With all the more chlorophyll to soak up
Every opportunity of energy
But I’ve watered too much now
Much past beyond the point
Where the water leaks out from the holes at the bottom
It started to raise the soil to the top
For all of it to fall on the sides of the pot
Every rock, every egg shell I saved,
Every bit of $20 fertilizer I spent hours
Reading through the nutrients list
I’ve poured and poured and poured
So much so all the dirt had lifted
And the little plant has floated away
Like the tectonic plates
Within the cracks
Is just the plastic’s home depot barcode
And a sloshy mess around me
